Gillis is known for his rare combination of soulful singing and virtuosic lead guitar. He hails from Turners Station, a small historic black community in Baltimore, Maryland.
After some years of paying his dues performing at small clubs and serving as a hired gun for other bands, doing every type of gig in the book as a local musician and entertainer in Baltimore, Maryland, Gillis has shifted his focus and has been releasing singles, EPs, and albums and touring all over the country with his original music.
Gillis says he just writes what he feels like writing, and that his songs come from his experiences. He has gone from living in a shack to playing in front of thousands of people and being on tv. Those experiences are all a part of who Gillis is as a performer and songwriter.
“My life has been a crazy journey, it’s been hard, but I know why things had to be that way and I wouldn’t change it,” Gillis stated. Along the way, he’s been able to share his story with the world through his music.
